Blender because it's free and powerfull.Google for tutorials, there are thousands tutorials.

My best bet would be Maya or 3dmax because simply it has friendly user interface. But do keep in mind they cost a lot but if you are a student you can get student versions i think they give you some...

Blender can be a pain in the butt, as it doesn't control very easily compared to other software.. I started on Winds3d (free) and now I use Maya and Zbrush.
